Course Description

Citizenship - A Level (Standard or Fast Track)

Do you require an Advanced Level (A Level) qualification to gain access into University? We provide a wide range of A Level programmes, you are sure to find something to meet your requirements. 

We make the marking of your assignment our priority, so that you are prepared and are in a position to take your examinations in June of each year. 

Our A Level in Citizenship Studies is the ideal qualification for individuals who would like to gain an in depth knowledge and understanding of the subject to allow them to progress and continue on to studying at a higher level at university.

 Please Note:

Due to legislation changes in some A Level specifications, the last opportunity to you will have to sit the exam on this course is June 2016.

We will be updating our A Level courses, to meet with the new specification in due course. Once these courses are released the first opportunity you will have to complete these exams will be June 2017.

The following specification has been created to encourage learners to:

  • Communicate different views, ideas and perspectives

  • Select, analyse and evaluate information in order to construct reasoned and coherent arguments

  • Plan, make decision, and advocate on citizenship issues

  • Work with others, making decisions, proposing alternative solutions and forming conclusions

On this programme students will study four modules including:

AS Level

1) CIST1 Identify, Rights and Responsibilities (written paper: 1 hours 15 minutes)

2) CIST2 Democracy, Active Citizenship and Participation (written paper: 1 hours 30 minutes)


A2 Level

3) CIST3: Power and Justice (written paper 1 hour 30 minutes)

4) CIST4: Global Issues and Making a Difference (written paper: 1 hour 30 minutes)


Course Content 

AS Level

Unit 1: CIST1 Identify, Rights and Responsibilities

  • What is a Citizen?

  • What does it mean to be British?

  • Are we all equal citizens

  • What are my rights and responsibilities 

  • How are my rights protected and supported?


Unit 2: CIST2 Democracy, Active Citizenship and Participation

  • Who can make a difference?

  • How can I make a difference?

  • Active citizenship skills and participation



Unit 3: CIST3 Power and Justice

  • What is crime?

  • What is Justice

  • Who speaks on our behalf?

  • How is the UK governed?


Unit 4: CIST4 Global Issues and Making a Difference

  • Universal human rights

  • Global issues

  • Making a difference

AS + A2 = A Level in Citizenship Studies. Students will need to successfully complete both AS and A2 level courses and examinations to achieve a full A Level. 


No Previous Knowledge Required

For this course there is no previous learning knowledge or experience required. This is an ideal course for anyone trying to gain a better understanding of acquired brain injuries. You will find undertaking this course highly rewarding.

You will have the freedom to begin the course when you choose to and continue your studies at your own convenience and pace for a period of up to 12 months (from the initial registration with full tutor support on hand)

  • Module 3: Treating ABI
  • Module 4: Rehabilitation
  • Module 5: Effects of ABI
  • Module 6: Practical Strategies to overcome the effect of ABI
  • Module 7: Adjusting to life after brain injury
  • Module 8: Legislation


12 Months Tutor Support

For this course you will receive a study guide, tutor support and also a course manual. We have a student support team in place who are on hand to answer any questions or queries you may have throughout the completion of your course. Unlimited support is available for students whilst completing their home study course.



In order to qualify for the certificate the assessment consists of a number of activities as well as a multi-choice questionnaire at the end of the course.


Awarding Organisation

The Assessment and Qualification Alliance (AQA) has a known reputation for encouraging education for the benefit of the public and also has substantial experience of setting and marking public examinations for example A – Levels and GCSEs. There are three English exam boards of which AQA is the largest. They award 49% of full course GCSEs and 42% of A – Levels on a national level. Students approximately sit 3.5 million examinations every year.
