Course Description

Classic Civilisation - A Level (Standard or Fast Track)

Do you need to achieve an A-Level to gain entry into University? 

We provide a range of A Level Courses, you are sure to find a programme of interest to you. We strive to make the marking of your work a priority so that you are fully prepared to sit your examinations in June of each year. 

An Advanced Level in Classical Civilisation is the ideal qualification for individuals who would like to gain knowledge and develop an understanding of the subject.  It will also provide students with the opportunity to progress on to higher education, or further training. 

 Please Note:

Due to legislation changes in some A Level specifications, the last opportunity to you will have to sit the exam on this course is June 2016.

We will be updating our A Level courses, to meet with the new specification in due course. Once these courses are released the first opportunity you will have to complete these exams will be June 2017.

The following specification has been created to enable students to:

  • Offer a wide choice of topics in the areas of archaeology, architecture, art, history and politics, literature and philosophy

  • Complement many other popular A levels including Art, Drama and Theatre Studies, English Literature, Government and Politics, History, History of Art, and Philosophy

This specification has been designed to encourage learners to do the following:

  • Develop the critical and evaluative skills, which will allow you to go on to Higher Education to study a wide range of courses

  • Draw on your experiences at GCSE, as well as offering a meaningful foundation for the study of classical culture beyond A- Level

This programme will require the learner to study four units including:

AS Level

  • Unit 2: Greek Tragedy in its Context

AS Level

Classification Code: H441

  • Unit 3: Art and Architecture in the Greek World

  • Unit 4: Virgil and the World of the Hero

In order to achieve the full A- Level, students are required to successfully complete both AS and A2 assignments and examinations.

 

Previous Knowledge Required

Students will be required to have a basic level of English reading and writing skills.

12 Months Tutor Support

Learners will receive a study guide and a course manual on enrolment. Students will be required to complete a series of assignments. Your personal tutor will review, mark and provide you with feedback. You do not need to submit your self-assessment exercises as these are for you to monitor your own personal progress. 

Learners completing A-Levels will receive tutor support for a period of 18 months. 

 

Assessment

To achieve the Classical Civilisation qualification, students will be required to complete a number of assignments that will then be reviewed and marked by your personal tutor. You are only required to submit your assignments to your tutor, you do not need to submit your self-assessment exercises, as they are for you to monitor your personal progress.
