Course Description

Mathematics with Statistics - A Level (Standard of Fast Track)

Need to achieve an A Level within 12 months? This is the ideal programme for learners to gain access in to higher education at University. We make it our priority to mark your work as quickly as possible, so you are fully prepared to sit your examinations in June of each year.

An Advanced Level in Mathematics with Statistics, is a suitable qualification for individuals who would like to develop their learning knowledge of this subject. Such understanding can allow students to progress on to higher education or possibly further training whilst working. 

Please Note:

Due to legislation changes in some A Level specifications, the last opportunity to you will have to sit the exam on this course is June 2016.

We will be updating our A Level courses, to meet with the new specification in due course. Once these courses are released the first opportunity you will have to complete these exams will be June 2017.

The entry requirements: English reading and writing skills and maths to at least GCSE grade C or equivalent. Students will need to have general skills and an understanding at the equivalent to GCSE level.

This specification has been created to:

  • Develop the learners understanding of mathematics and the processes in a way that promotes confidence enjoyment 

  • Develop abilities to recognise incorrect reasoning

  • To extend their range of mathematical skills and techniques and use them in more difficult unstructured problems 

  • Use mathematics as an effective means of communication

  • Gain the skills needed to use technology such as calculators and computer effectively.

Students will be required to study the following six units:

AS Level

Unit 1 MPC1 Core 1

Unit 2 MPC2 Core 2

Unit 3 MS1B Statistics 1B

A2 Level 

Unit 4 MPC3 Core 3

Unit 5 MPC4 Core 4

Unit 6 MS2B Statistics 2

Each unit has 1 written paper of 1 hour 30 minutes.

AS Level

Unit 1 MPC1 Core 1 Co-ordinate Geometry Quadratic functions & Differentiation Integration 

Unit 2 MPC2 Core 2 Algebra and Functions Sequences and Series, Trigonometry Exponentials and logarithms, Differentiation Integration

Unit 3 MS1B Statistics 1B Statistical Measures, Probability, Discrete Random Variables Normal Distribution Estimation

A2 Level

Unit 4 MPC3 Core 3 Algebra and Functions Trigonometry, Exponentials and Logarithms, Differentiation Integration, Numerical Methods  

Unit 5 MPC4 Core 4 Algebra and Functions Coordinate Geometry in the (x, y) plane Sequences and Series, Trigonometry Exponentials and Logarithms Differentiation and Integration Vectors

Unit 6 MS2B Statistics 2 Poisson distribution 

Continuous random variables 

The t-distribution Hypothesis testing Chi- squared tests

To achieve the full A-Level, students will be required to successfully complete assignments and examinations for both AS and A2 level. 


No Previous Knowledge Required

Students will need to have knowledge and understanding with all the mathematics at this level. Your skills should be graded B or above. It is highly recommended that students who have not studied maths for some time, revise some of the higher level GCSE subjects. Students can do this through visiting the BBC website “GCSE Bitesize” which is a revision programme.

12 Months Tutor Support

Students will receive a course manual and a study guide on enrolment. Students will be assigned a personal tutor who will be on hand to answer any questions or queries you may have, throughout the duration of the programme (via mail or email). Learners will also be able to access are student help desk who are available to provide any practical advice you may require throughout your studies (via email or telephone). When studying our A-Levels you will be able to access 18 months tutor support.



To achieve the Mathematics with Statistics A-Level qualification, students will be required to have several assignments. Your personal tutor will review and mark your work. Learners only need to send the assignments to your tutor. You do not need to submit your self-assessment activities and exercises, as they are for you to monitor your personal progress.
