Course Description

Psychology - A Level (Standard or Fast Track)

Need to achieve an A Level within 12 months? This is the ideal programme for learners to gain access in to higher education at University. We make it our priority to mark your work as quickly as possible, so you are fully prepared to sit your examinations in June of each year.

An Advanced Level in Psychology, is a suitable qualification for individuals who would like to develop their learning knowledge of this subject. Such understanding can allow students to progress on to higher education.

 Please Note:

Due to legislation changes in some A Level specifications, the last opportunity to you will have to sit the exam on this course is June 2016.

We will be updating our A Level courses, to meet with the new specification in due course. Once these courses are released the first opportunity you will have to complete these exams will be June 2017. 

The following specification has been created to:

  • Enable students to engage with the subject by introducing new, contemporary topics

  • Allows students to demonstrate the ability to use scientific methodology in the framework of psychology

  • Make theoretically demanding areas more accessible

  • Allow learners to develop their critical thinking skills

Students will be required to study the following four units:

AS Level

Unit 1: PSYA1 Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Research Methods (Examination: 1 hour 30 minutes)

Unit 2: PSYA2 Biological Psychology, Social Psychology and Individual Differences (Examination: 1 hour 30 minutes)

 

A2 Level 

Unit 3: PSYA3 Topics in Psychology (Examination 1 hour 30 minutes)

Unit 4: PSYA4 Psychopathology, Psychology in Action and Research Methods (Examination: 2 hours)

No Previous Knowledge Required

Students are not required to have any previous learning knowledge or qualifications in this subject.

However, this subject area will require students to work extremely hard in order to grasp the difficult concepts and models. Learners will also be needed to pay attention to detailed and complex arguments. This programme would suit individuals with an inquisitive nature, and for those that would like to develop and improve their mental abilities. This course would require a high level of reading comprehension, and also excellent essay writing skills.

Support

Students will receive a course manual and a study guide on enrolment. Students will be assigned a personal tutor who will be on hand to answer any questions or queries you may have, throughout the duration of the programme (via mail or email). Learners will also be able to access are student help desk who are available to provide any practical advice you may require throughout your studies (via email or telephone). When studying our A-Levels you will be able to access 18 months tutor support.

 

Assessment

To achieve the Psychology A-Level qualification, students will be required to have several assignments. Your personal tutor will review and mark your work. Learners only need to send the assignments to your tutor. You do not need to submit your self-assessment activities and exercises, as they are for you to monitor your personal progress. 

Learners are required to sit their examinations at an AQA centre.
