Course Description

Sociology Diploma - Level 3 NCFE

Our Sociology Diploma aims to develop an essential understanding of society. This course focuses on the study of the social world, and looks at what is involved in study of human behaviour and the way they behave.

Students will gain the necessary knowledge needed to recognise and identify social problems including, poverty, crime and also ill health. Sociology involves the study of human societies. This area was established in the 18th century, and can be categorised as one of the social sciences.

Students will look at the work of people such as Auguste Comte. This subject area only gained acceptance as an academic subject in the 20th century. Students will investigate the work of Emille Durkheim, Talcott Parsons and also Max Weber throughout the programme.

Learners will concentrate on the work of Karl Marx who is the founder of modern Communism. Marx has made a considerable effort to encourage people’s interest in this area. He lived and wrote in 1818-1884, which was in a time where sociology became recognised and established as an academic discipline.

There has been a long history of a period of 150-200 years of sociology. In Britain it has only been established as an examined subject in the education system in the last 30-40 years. Sociology has achieved a level of importance as a subject to study, and is one of the most popular A-Levels taken by more than 40,000 students.
