Human Resources Course - Level 3 Diploma (Paper Format)

This is the level 3 paper (print) version of our Human Resources Diploma. If you require the online version of this course, please click here.  Students will be guided through a range of topic areas, which will provide you with a real insight into the importance of the Human Resources Department.

A successful organisation is one that has the ability to manage its resources in an effective manner. Not only this, learners will look at the importance of providing a product or service, which will exceed the expectations of its customers. Resources within a business include equipment, materials, facilities, and the most essential employees.

Organisations rely on the skills, experience and also expertise of all its staff, this includes staff from the boardroom to the shop floor. Managers are responsible for successful daily management of staff. The Human Resources (HR) Department is required to develop, support and also dispense with these resources regarding the needs of the company. The business needs to satisfy the statutory requirements.

The structure of daily tasks that are carried out by the HR department, will be dependent on the size and the structure of the specific company. It is suggested that in larger companies there is often a specific department who will perform the necessary human resource tasks and activities. Whereas in smaller businesses, such tasks will may be carried out by an individual. The responsibilities of the HR department will differ between companies. For example the payroll function whereas in other companies it is the Accounts Departments responsibility.

Our Human Resources Diploma will investigate the type of work and tasks that are usually carried out by the Human Resources Department. Students will develop and improve their knowledge and skills needed to work as Human Resources Personnel. You will find this a demanding but highly rewarding role.

The Human Resources Diploma covers six modules. All of which are relevant to a specific area that is vital to the work of HR employees. Modules include:

  • Recruitment, Selection and Induction of Staff

  • Producing and Maintaining Personnel Records

  • Staff Management and Relationships

  •  Staff Support, Training and Development

  • Disciplinaries, Grievances and Tribunals

  • Employment Terminations

To successfully complete the diploma, you will be required to complete all six of these modules. The first module will cover recruitment, selection and induction of staff. It will concentrate on managing the acquisition of employees. This is a fundamental role of any Human Resources department in supporting the organisation. Recruiting staff is an expensive process and is time consuming. It is often the manager who will analyse and also justify the need for human resources. It is significant that the Human Resource department are aware of the recruitment processes and methods needed, and what they entail so that they can be performed in an efficient manner.

Module 2 will look at producing and maintaining personnel records. All businesses need information and data to allow them to operate successfully. Data regarding the businesses human resources is involved in this information. There are a variety of data that a company should keep hold of to comply with the legal requirements, and also to develop and manage such resources, as well as to meet the requirements of the company. Students will be guided through the range of information that is required. Not only this, you will learn how it is used and successfully managed.

The third module will look at staff management and relationships. It is vital that good employer/ employee relationships are maintained to contribute to the success of any organisation. Such relationships can include many parties with many rights. The use of employment policies can assist in managing such groups. It is essential that a business has the relevant employment policies in place which will ensure they are communicated to all staff.

If such procedures are consistently applied, it will assist and support the Human Resources in gaining a better understanding of the employer/ employee relationships. Having a better knowledge of this relationship will reduce the occurrence of disciplinary action. This unit will also investigate the key rights of employees and employers. Not only this, students will examine the policies needed by law to have good work practice.

Module 4 will cover staff support, training and development, which are vital when easing a staff member into the organisation. This section will give students a real insight into to the importance of making new employees feel like a valued member of the team. The business should ensure an employee is able to contribute, and be motivated is an ongoing process. The Human Resources department has a crucial part to play in the area of training and development.

Learners will discuss staff turnover and the reasons as to why it can happen arise, as well as the problems it causes, that will need to be focused on to keep turnover to a minimum.  Students will then be continue to look at the concerns that arise regarding staff support, training and also development.

Module 5 will cover disciplinaries, grievances and tribunals in any relationship. Occasionally, problems arise in the relationship between a business and its employees and need to be resolved in a fair way. Such difficulties occur in the workplace and are often referred to as grievance/ disciplinary issues, when a matter has not been handled appropriately in the early stages of the problem. This unit will discuss in detail how the HR department play an important part in the grievance procedure and how such issue can be handled in a correct manner.

Module 6 will investigate employment termination. Students will look at the role of Human Resources when it comes to managing the employee leaving process and procedure. There are a range of reasons as to why employees may stop working for an employer, some cases are voluntarily and other are not.

It is vital that the employment terminations are managed and handled in a professional approach. If a business badly manages a termination of employment, then this has the potential to lead to a negative outcome for the employer. This unit will guide students through the key styles of employee termination. Not only this, learners will look at the main reasons for the processes and procedures included in their management.
