Course Description

History - IGCSE

Our IGCSE History course has been designed and created to provide students with a real insight into the subject of History. History is the study of past events. Such events can have an influence on the future and can shape the world we live in. It is important that we have an understanding of what has happened in the past. It is suggested that it is not possible to understand our present, without looking at history. For example it would be difficult to develop an understanding of the events of the 1900’s without looking at the 1800s.

Unless we looked back on the events of the 20th century, it would be very difficult to understand the present social, political and also economic climate. This course has been designed and created to make it as interactive as possible. Students will have several self-assessment activities to complete, which will help to greaten your knowledge and understanding in this field. Such assessments have been put into place to enable the learner to measure and monitor their personal progress on the programme. Learners will be provided with practice examination questions, which will help you to revise and identify any areas you may need to study further. Your tutor will review and mark your work.

Students will be required to study four modules, which are divided over three examinations.

The examinations include:

  • Paper 1 (2 hours) is a written paper. In Section A, students can complete two questions on either the 19th or 20th century content (unit 1 and 3)

  • In Section B, learners will complete one question (either unit 2 or 4). This paper is worth 40% of the marks.

  • Paper 2 (2 hours) is a written paper. Learners will be required to complete a number of questions on the 19th OR 20th century (units 1 or 3). This paper is worth 33% or the marks.

  • Paper 4 (1 hour) is a written paper. Students will be required to complete one question on one study area (either unit 2 or 4). Such questions will be based on historical sources. Paper 4 is worth 27% of the marks available.
