Course Description

Mathematics - IGCSE

IGCSE courses are the same as GCSEs and are accepted in the same way. IGCSE Mathematics is an important subject for all students. This course aims to encourage the development of mathematical knowledge as a life skill. This course will provide students with a greater knowledge and understanding which is vital for individuals who would like to continue with further study. This programme strives to build the learners confidence by supporting them in developing a strong understanding of patterns, numbers, and relationships.

Students will enhance their skills in problem solving, interpreting and presenting results. You will be guided through a range of mathematical theories and concepts. This UK Open Learning Course has been designed and created to help meet the needs of individuals who would like to progress on to an A-Level. Mathematics at IGCSE is often a requirement for those wishing to enter a number of key professionals and further advanced courses. 

How is the course structured?

Our IGCSE Mathematics course will start by looking at what the examination board will expect of you in the way of examinations. Students will be provided with all the necessary information needed with regards to the registration and arrangement of your examinations with the test centre. This is an exam-only syllabus, and so will focus on preparing you for your exams. Students will receive a study guide, in which you will find useful when it comes to the assessment process.

What does the course prepare me for?

This course study pack has been created to closely match the curriculum content of the syllabus. It will equip learners with all the necessary information and materials needed to successfully complete this programme. You will develop your knowledge through completing a range of activities and exercises which will provide you with a greater knowledge and understanding needed to enter the examinations successfully.

What will the exams look like?

Core curriculum – Grades available: C-G Paper 1 – 1 hour including short answer questions. 

Students will be required to complete each question. This paper is worth 35%.

Paper 2 – 1 ½ hours including short answer questions. This is worth 35%.

Extended curriculum - Grades available: A*- E Paper 3 lasts 2 hours. Students will be required to answer each of the structured questions.

Students are required to answer each question, weighing 65%. Paper 4 lasts 2 ½ hours structured questions. Students can access past papers on the University of Cambridge IGCSE website. This will enable you to get a better idea of which tier you should enter at. The tutor will also provide advice on this when they have gained an impression of your potential. 

 

No Previous Knowledge Required

There is no previous learning knowledge or experience needed to enrol on to this programme. You are required to have literacy and numeracy skills.

 

12 Months Tutor Support

You will have access to full tutor support. Your tutor will be on hand to answer any questions you may have, throughout the duration of the programme (via email).
