Course Description

Religious Studies - A Level AQA

This A-Level can be completed in under 12 months and provide you with a viable pathway into university. Religion is a topic that fascinates many people, whether you are a devout Christian or an atheist, there is no doubting religion is a complex subject with many avenues for exploration.

There are many different types of religion, followed by millions of people around the world and this course will encourage an enquiring, critical and reflective approach to the subject. Learners will be encouraged to look closely at religion and create educated opinions and theories around the issue. 

This Religious Studies A Level will also develop interest in religion and its relationship with wider society. The course takes an in depth look at a number of religions including, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism as well as Christianity. 

This A-Level distance learning course is perfect for any individual looking to gain access to university or develop a good understanding of religion to go on to future studies within the subject.

 Please Note:
Due to legislation changes in some A Level specifications, the last opportunity to you will have to sit the exam on this course is June 2016.
We will be updating our A Level courses, to meet with the new specification in due course. Once these
courses are released the first opportunity you will have to complete these exams will be June 2017.

No Previous Knowledge Required

The only requirement for a learner to take this course is that they have a basic grasp of English reading and writing skills, as there will be written examinations involved in this course.

  • Units 1 and 2 – Introduction to Religious Studies

A2 Level

  • Unit 3 – Studies in Religion

  • Unit 4 – Religion and Human Experience


18 Months Tutor Support

The course will be delivered to you in paper format and not as an electronic version, meaning you have physical access to your materials at all times. Full tutor support will be available via e-mail for the duration of your course to help with any queries you may have about the course. All the information you need to complete and hand in assignments is provided within the course material. Postal assignments cannot be accepted without prior permission from your tutor. 



There are a number of assignments within the course that will be marked by your tutor and annotated with observations and suggested improvements to ensure you are prepared for the final exams. The exams for this course are as follows:

  • AS Level - Unit 1 – 1 hour 15 minutes

             Unit 2 – 1 hour 15 minutes

  • A 2 Level -Unit 3 – 1 hour 30 minutes

             Unit 4 – 1 hour 30 minutes

All exams are taken at registered AQA centres, a list of which will be provided in your course pack.
