Course Description

Responding to Substance Misuse Course - Level 3

eCertified Learning's Responding to Substance Misuse course is designed at Level 3 and is an excellent follow on and progression from the ABC Awards Level 2 Drugs Awareness programme. The programme is divided into seven core modules each looking at an important aspect of substance misuse.

The aims of the programme are to introduce the learner to a variety of areas related to the use and misuse of a wide range of drugs, including both legal and illegal substances. It will help to develop an increased understanding of the issues associated with the subject matter along with the possible responses and interventions.

Specific objectives are listed as Learning Outcomes at the start of each of the seven modules of the programme. The Learning Outcomes cover areas related to:

  • Symptoms, effects and paraphernalia of drug use

  • Drug use and the various responses and services available

  • Current legislation and the Government’s strategy on drugs

  • Information on a variety of substances and the effects they have

  • Volatile Substance Abuse and various related issues

  • Alcohol and drug use by young people

  • Blood-borne viruses and related health issues

The Responding to Substance Misuse programme raises an opportunity for personal development and occupational competence in an area identified by government policy as one requiring special attention. After the previous drugs strategy, the overall Government’s policy is now laid out in a ten-year strategy for the years 2008 to 2018: ‘Drugs: Protecting Families and Communities’. This programme should contribute to the strategy through an educational model.

The programme is a great resource for anyone interested in the subject but is particularly aimed at those who work directly and regularly with people with alcohol or drugs misuse or those who wish to pursue a career in these areas. Further, the programme can be completed purely as an ‘interest course’ to help develop knowledge.

With so much reference to drugs and their consequences within the media, training and development is highly valued in this field. The programme has been mapped to the DANOS (Drug and Alcohol National Occupational Standards) and can be found on the DANOS Learning Resources Database. It helps people to develop their knowledge, skills and competence in the following DANOS units: AA1, AA3, AA4, AB2, AB5, AC1, AD1, AF2.

The programme provides comprehensive underpinning knowledge for further higher level qualifications and is an ideal grounding for those who wish to develop further in the subject area.

Our aim is to provide you with the best deal available when purchasing the Responding to Substance Misuse course, therefore registration fee, certification fee and full tutor support are included in the course price for you.
