Course Description

Biology A Level - Standard or Fast Track

Do you require an A Level within 12 months to gain access into University? There are a wide range of A Levels available to choose from. We guarantee to prioritise the marking of your coursework so you can feel confident that you will be ready to take your exams in June (of each year). There is no extra cost for this service.

An Advanced Level in Biology is a suitable qualification for anyone who would like to gain a more in depth knowledge and understanding of the subject. It will allow them to go on and progress to higher level at university.

Not only this, it will provide a route for progression with regards to further training in employment.

The specification has been created to encourage students to develop their practical skills as well as their knowledge of the concepts and theories for the study of biology in Higher Education.

This course covers the new 2015 specification. As a result of the updated specification the first opportunity you will have to complete the exam for this course will be June 2017.

Previous Knowledge Required

Learners are required to have a minimum of GCSE grade C or above. You will be required to have an understanding of the following terms including: molecule, ion, compound element, isomer, oxidation, isotope, bond, reduction, hydrolysis, condensation and also wavelength.  

Course Modules

The AQA A Level Biology specification is structured into eight topics, assessed across three examinations. This course has been designed to reflect this, and will take students through each topic, as listed below:

Topic 1: Biological molecules

Topic 2: Cells

Topic 3: Organisms exchange substances with their environment

Topic 4: Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms

Topic 5: Energy transfers in and between organisms

Topic 6: Organisms respond to changes in their internal and external environments

Topic 7: Genetic populations, evolution and ecosystems

Topic 8: The control of gene expressions

Tutor Support

Learners will receive a study guide on enrolment of the course. Students will receive their course in a paper based form. Learners will be assigned a personal tutor who will be on hand to answer any questions or queries you may have throughout the completion of the course. Your tutor will review, mark and provide you with feedback on your work. Postal assignments will not be accepted unless your tutor has given permission for you to do so. For our A-Level courses tutor support is available via email and lasts for 18 months. 



This programme contains several assignments which your assigned personal tutor will review and mark. They will provide you with feedback on how to improve your assignments. 


Awarding Organisation

AQA (The Assessment and Qualifications Alliance) has a well-known reputation for prompting education for the public. It sets and marks public exams for example GCSEs and A-Levels and other qualifications. Each year there are more than 3.5 million learners that take an exam with them. AQA is the biggest of three English examination board. It awards 49% of full course GCSEs and 42% of A-Levels on a national level.
