Course Description

Challenging Behaviour in Children & Young People - Level 2 ABC Award

Our Challenging Behaviour course will assist and support staff in improving the lives of people who show signs of challenging behaviour. This programme will investigate how staff can help children and young people to replace such behaviour with positive actions.

In module 1 learners will investigate what behaviour and communication is and the functions they perform. We will be taking the approach that challenging behaviour the majority of the time has an underlying cause.

Module 2 will investigate the different definitions, concepts and principals of challenging behaviour.

Module 3 and 4 will provide a real insight into how challenging behaviour can be assessed and students will look at the strategies that can be used to promote positive behaviour.

In module 5 learners will look in depth at the important issues of physical intervention. Module 6 will then follow on with learning materials to provide advice on how to accurately record incidents.

Modules 7, 8 and 9 will provide learners with information that is related to mental health, challenging behaviour, sensory issues, autism, and also learning disabilities.

The final module of this course will explore current legislation in the UK that is relevant to the subject area of challenging behaviour.

This programme will aid and support care workers by identifying what they can and cannot do. Not only this, it will provide advice as to how they remain safe,  keeping children and young people safe, and operate within organisational, local and national procedures.

This programme will target staff from a variety of different social care settings. Workers will be supporting children and young people who demonstrate behaviour that will be considered to be challenging. Settings include residential care, respite care, educational provision, day services and also the voluntary sector.
